Vanilla cakes are definitely a popular dessert and snack. This is not only because of their delicious taste, but also because it is easy to make them!

Of course, there are different ways to make them. In any case, vanilla is the main ingredient that can not be lacking in order for them to get that particular flavor.

Therefore, they are good for breakfast and snacks, for guests or as a basic dough for other desserts. So if you want to learn how to make them, in this article we will give you the traditional recipe for vanilla cakes and a sugar-free recipe with reduced calories.

Vanilla: An important ingredient in cake

With regard to this topic, it should be noted that in addition to being an ingredient used to make hundreds of recipes, vanilla is actually a plant. It comes from the orchid genus and grows in tropical and subtropical areas.

According to several studies, it is the only aromatic orchid used in the food industry and cosmetics. This plant has been used since ancient times by the Aztecs, not only for its aroma but also for the treatment of various diseases.

In this regard, a study published in Revista Mexicana Agrociencia in 2018 mentions that it possesses bioactive substances (such as alkaloids, flavonoids, anthocyanins, sterols and terpenoids) that act as antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents.

Now let’s see what the other ingredients are for making these delicious cookies. Do not forget to follow the instructions carefully.

Vanilla sticks and flowers

Ingredients

  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 100 g sugar
  • 2 medium-sized eggs
  • 400 g white flour 0000
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Icing sugar: The required amount
  • 170 g butter
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder: 5 grams

Course of action

First of all, you need to preheat the oven to 162 degrees to make these cookies. Then you start with the egg mixture:

  1. Divide the eggs. Separate the egg whites from the egg yolks.
  2. Put the egg whites in a bowl and add 2 tablespoons sugar. Whisk using an electric hand mixer until it grows in volume.
  3. Then add 2 tablespoons of sugar and continue whipping until the mixture is stiff and the meringue is formed.

Now you continue with the dough:

  1. Whisk the 2 egg yolks, butter, vanilla essence and remaining sugar.
  2. Continue whipping until the mixture thickens.
  3. Then mix the flour with baking powder and a pinch of salt. Add it little by little to the previous mixture. Do this carefully using a spatula.
  4. Finally, add the meringue to this bowl until it forms a smooth dough. If you notice that it is sticky, add more flour so you can handle it without any problems.

Finally, your cookies are made as follows:

  1. Sprinkle flour on a clean tabletop, place the dough on it, and start rolling it out using a rolling pin. You need to make it uniform. When done, the dough should be no more than an inch high.
  2. Then you start cutting out the cookies in the shape you prefer. When done, remove the remaining dough so as not to damage the cakes you just made.
  3. Carefully peel the cakes and place them on a baking sheet without touching each other.
  4. With the remaining dough, repeat the kneading and cutting process.
  5. Finally, when you have finished arranging the cookies, sprinkle with icing sugar and bake them in the oven for 15 minutes.

  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons liquid sweetener suitable for baking
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons oil

  • 1 pinch of salt
A bowl of sugar and sugar lumps

Procedure for the recipe with low sugar content

  1. In a bowl, beat the egg with a hand mixer to increase the volume.
  2. Then add vanilla extract, sweetener and 3 tablespoons oil. Continue whipping, but this time using a spatula.
  3. In another bowl, mix wholemeal flour, baking powder and a pinch of salt.
  4. Then add the dry ingredients to the bowl with the eggs and mix until a smooth dough is formed. As in the previous recipe, add more flour, if necessary, to the point where you can stretch the dough without it sticking.
  5. Then repeat the steps explained in the second recipe. That is, roll out the dough, use a cutter, place the cookies on a greased tray, and remove them from the heat after 15 minutes.
