We could list many benefits of yoga, but the most important are emotional stability, relaxation, and energy. There are several different types of yoga. In this article, we focus on Hatha Yoga, a blend of physical yoga and meditation.

Yoga postures are also known as asanas, and are exercises that unite the body with the mind. While some positions may seem easy to perform, each of them is difficult going its own way. You need to be mindful and control both your body and your mind at the same time.

There are many different yoga poses, and each of them is beneficial for a particular part of the body. Some help correct problems like scoliosis, others increase flexibility, while still others relieve pain.

These positions can be perfected with a lot of practice and patience. Even the best yoga practitioners spend years mastering their technique.

What yoga poses give you energy?

Yoga gives you energy. The following four positions are particularly good. We recommend that you perform them frequently:

1 – Downward facing dog

This is the most common yoga pose and it is ideal for beginners. It involves placing the body in an inverted V-shape. The position does not require a great deal of physical effort, but a good posture is a necessity to maintain balance.

How do you do?

  • Stand on a yoga mat and place your hands on the mat under your shoulders, with your knees hip-width apart. Make sure to keep your back straight.
  • Support yourself on your hands and feet in this position.
  • Take a deep breath, stretch your knees and lift your hips as high as possible. Try to keep your heels on the floor and hold the position for 10 seconds.
  • Lower your hips and return to the starting position with an exhale.

This position is a variant of the first position. It is often confused with the cobra position, but the main difference is that you support your body on your hands and feet. Do not keep your legs pressed in the mat as you would in the cobra position.

How do you do?

  • Start by lying on your stomach on a yoga mat with your face down. Take a deep breath and hold your breath.
  •  Lift your knees off the mat and push the upper part of your body upwards.
  • Your arms should be fully extended and your hands placed under your shoulders. Make an arch in the back and look up at the ceiling.
  • Hold this position for 10 seconds, then release.

Advantage

  • Strengthens the muscles in the arms, shoulders, wrists, abdominal cavity, waist and chest.
  • Tightens the buttock muscles
  • Improves the flexibility of your spine
  • Opens the chest more and thus increases the lung capacity.

3 – Warrior position

As with the dog positions, there are three variations on the warrior position. This yoga pose was inspired by Virabhadra, an ancient warrior from India who emerged from the suffering of Lord Shiva after the death of his wife.

How do you do?

  • Stand on a yoga mat and stretch your back. Inhale for five seconds, hold for another ten seconds and exhale for ten seconds.
  • Stand with your legs spread apart and lift your arms up in the air.
  • Take a big step forward with your right leg.
  • Lean forward over your right leg until you reach a 90-degree angle. Be sure to keep your back straight and remain in this position for 10 seconds before returning to the starting point.

4 – Savasana, or lying position, gives you energy

From a physical perspective, this is the easiest yoga pose, but what really makes it difficult to perform is the mental effort required. The goal of this position is to be completely relaxed and achieve a meditative state.

You need to minimize your mental activity to perform this position, forget about distractions and make your breathing deep.

How do you do?

  • Lie flat on your back on a yoga mat with your legs hip-width apart.
  • Rest your arms slightly away from your body. Your head should be centered and your spine straight, your hands should rest with your palms facing up and with relaxed fingers.
  • Concentrate on breathing deeply to release muscle tension and stiffness.
