We all have old cutlery and other things we do not use at home. Did you know, however, that you can take advantage of the old things and give them new creative life?

Do you have any old cutlery lying around and a bit of imagination?

If so, you have what it takes to create unique items to decorate your home with. Here are some ideas for things you can do by recycling old cutlery.

Ways to recycle old cutlery

The metal with which the old cutlery was made is a fabulous material worth taking advantage of.

If you have kept old forks, spoons and knives in a closet for many years, it’s time to take them out into the open. Here are some ideas that you might want to try yourself.

Old forks are excellent for making a rustic coat rack

This first idea is for a simple coat rack made with forks. All you need is a wooden board and a pair of forks that you no longer use.

  • To change the forks to suit your design, heat them with a blowtorch (make sure you have the right protection!). Each of them can be unique.
  • Then just attach them to the wooden board and voila! You have a beautiful coat rack to hang all sorts of things on.

Swamp dolls

Why not involve the kids in doing things? How about using the old wooden spoons that you never use to make dolls?

You can make your hair out of yarn or other material you may have on hand, as well as use old clothes you have lying around to dress them.

You can also use all existing buttons and ribbons to complete them. You can also use paint and brushes for eyes, nose and mouth. Kids will really love helping with everything they can!

Napkin rings

A forgotten fork in a drawer can become a beautiful napkin ring, especially if it is made of a precious metal like silver. If you want a professional work, you may need to hire a jeweler to make it for you.

  • To bend the metal to the shape you want, you must (carefully) heat it with a blowtorch. You can bend the forks depending on what you want to do with them.

It will make a beautiful gift for a special person!

Keychains of spoons

This attractive recycling idea also requires some silversmithing skills.

  • First, cut the handle on the spoons and flatten them.
  • Then you need a hole for a keychain so you can attach your your keys to it.
  • Additionally, you can add some texture with a punch or cut in a name or customize it any other way you want.

Cabinet stickers made with old alpaca cutlery

Alpaca is a silver-like material. But it is in fact an alloy made of zinc, nickel and copper. A lot of old cutlery is made with this metal. The advantage of it is that it is very malleable, making it ideal for metal crafts.

You can use alpaca spoons to make cabinet labels.

  • Bend them or knock them flat with a hammer at room temperature. As you can see, this is not that difficult.
  • Afterwards, you can add the names of the things you intend to store there: “bread”, “cereal”, “sugar”, etc. and then put them on doors and drawers.

Garden markers

This is similar to the cabinet labels. You can make these with alpaca spoons or knives. The metal is very resistant to outdoor conditions.

Wouldn’t it be helpful to be able to easily identify what’s in your garden?

Sea-themed unrest with old cutlery

A hanging turmoil with sea figures made of cutlery certainly requires some work. However, the result will be incredible!

  • You can use spoons to make fish by removing the handle and then shaping what is left of them to make the tail. You can even drill an eye hole!
  • You can also convert a fork to an abstract squid using a blowtorch.

Conclusion

How many of us have Grandma’s silver cutlery stored in a drawer? We never use it, and never get to it!

So what could be better than recycling old cutlery by making it into beautiful works of art to decorate our homes?

You can even just paint them white and then frame them. The result will be surprising and original.

As you can see, there are so many things you can do with the old cutlery you have at home. All it takes is a little creativity and imagination!
